A Staggering Figure: 1.475 million!!

How many people donated to the Obama campaign overall during the month of April?

1.475 million!

Can you imagine what 1.475 million contributors can do?

"If you have millions of dollars you are not going to get to
continue doing what you want. You are into a world of commitment
to that money and all the people that helped you get that money."

                                                                                                   Jonathan Frid

Not so, if you have 1.475 million people contributing to your political campaign.

With that many donors, you don't have to be dependent on lobbyists or special interests. You just have to be true to what your contributors believe about you.

In the month of April:

200,000                         The number of new donors to Obama campaign

93%                               % of contributions that were $100 or less

2,929,000 million           Number of contributions given

$31.3 million                  Amount raised in April, plus an additional $600,000 for the general election

$37.3 million                  Cash on Hand, plus an additional $9.2 million for the general election

It's been 15 months, from the depths of winter to the fullness of spring, as Obama called it in his speech in Iowa.  In 15 months, to achieve 1.475 million contributors in one month alone, is in itself decisive, of the level of support for Obama.

"You're talking serious money already in the bank, and millions of dollars
                coming in every year."
                          Neil Abercrombie

Millions of dollars in one month, April.  Evidence of a campaign well-run, demonstrative showing of an ability to be an executive, judged by his campaign; itself a reason for so many to support by giving so much.

A Reason to move back home

I'm like millions of you. Its lonely in Thailand. The country here is pretty hopeless right now. I've worked at for 25 years, only to see everything swept away time and time again. institutions here don't develop. And I honestly feel excitement and greater sense of civic duty because Barack (who I saw at church in Chicago in 2003) stood up and said "Yes we can!" Is there hope in the USA? back in Elyria OH? Barack isn't there. Should I think of pulling up the tent stakes and going back to try living in the US again. Afraid of unemployment. Afraid of how people look at me like I'm an alien or something. Afraid of Ohioans who just don't get it about the world right now. Afraid of being single again in a world focussed on sexism and racism rather than hope and love. But who I am and what I know is needed there. My English students would miss me. Should I stay or should I go? Should I stay here or should I go back? That's the 25-year question. Don
