Hi! Welcome to my web site devoted to all those Americans who, like me, find themselves away from home. I hope we can not only share our feelings, thoughts, hopes and fears, but also pass on advice about living abroad in a strange land - whichever land it may be. This is just the beginning, so please send suggestions if you like.
Barack Obama says: "We are entering what could be a decisive phase of the campaign. It's going to take every one of us reaching out, organizing, and giving our all to make it happen." Please visit the site below and donate directly to the Obama campaign. Do it now, every day counts!
Our election is getting wall-to-wall coverage on television and in all the newspapers here in the UK, which may surprise a lot of Americans back home. This morning I was interviewed by the charming Dermot Murnaghan on Sky News, and asked to comment on Barack Obama's securing the Democratic nomination. I hadn't realized that the interview was broadcast around the world! Afterwards I even received an email from someone who had watched from Hong Kong! And from Paris, France.
They didn't attach a microphone until a minute after the interview started, when it felt like a little animal was crawling around my leg, and then attaching something behind my shoulder. While concentrating on the questions, wanting to do my best to answer accurately, focusing on the interviewer, I realized what was going on but tried not to show it. I hope you find this video interesting, but please excuse the sound track.
When I first got into the car to go to Sky's headquarters, I said good morning to the driver. He asked, "How are you?" and I thought he was saying that in case I was nervous about being on television. "Happy," I answered. "Barack Obama?" he asked. "You mean you connected my American accent with my saying 'I'm happy' and figured out it was connected with Obama?" "Yes." He smiled. What a lovely way to start the day after Barack's good news last night.
