Writing about Hillary's chances in Ohio in an Op-Ed article, Gail Collins asserts that Hillary would win if Obama weren't so appealing (
NY Times article here).
Collins writes that Hillary has done fine. "She’d probably have won the nomination walking away if Barack hadn’t picked this moment to mutate into BARACK!"
It's hard to understand how an intelliegent journalist can fail to understand it's what he's saying, not how he looks, how he stands, or his suit (Though David Letterman did tell Barack, scanning his clothes, "That suit's electable!")
Obama offers hope to a country tired of swagger. Obama says the U.S. can be better. Americans are fed up, and yearn to change direction. It's nice that his message comes from an eloquent, good-looking guy with good tailoring; but absent more, it would just be plastic.
It's the message, Stupid. It's what he's offering to bring to American tables: Hope, concern, empathy, transparency, and changes people want. While he may be Madison Avenue's dreamboat, IWHS, Stupid. (It's What He's Saying, Stupid).
